An alternative to bars for guys who are a bit nerdier, a bit more on the spectrum, or who aren’t quite ready to walk into a leather bar yet but absolutely want to be in queer-bear company. we get it.
Most queer spaces in this town are loud, expensive, and built around drinking. Some of us love that. Some of us love it sometimes. Some of us would rather sit at a table with five other guys, learn a slightly-too-complex game in twenty minutes, and have an excuse to talk to someone we’d normally just nod at across the room.
Cubs&Cardboard is that. It’s free. It’s monthly. It’s in someone’s lounge room. We bring the boards, the snacks, and an unreasonable number of meeples. You bring yourself, and maybe a mate.
We’re a gay-bear-cub-shaped club, but the door is open to anyone the lads want to hang with — friends, partners, friends-of-friends, the guy from trivia who keeps saying he’d come if you ever invited him.
We’re Brisbane-based. We’d like to not be Brisbane-only. If that’s a conversation you want to have, email us.
Better than a list of identities — some real readers we’ve had.
You're not. Half the room is in the same boat.
This is the easier door.
This is a lounge room. Nobody is cruising. (Some flirting. Different.)
Bright enough to see the rulebook, ~20 people, sit down the whole time, leave when you're done.
Welcome. The lads vouched for you, that's the bar.
You count. The label's a vibe, not a checklist.
If none of those are you and you’re still wondering — email. One question beats three wrong attempts.

Knows the rules. Will not soften them.
We’d love to be more places. Email us.
